Any skin type whether its dry, oily or combination can have problems with dehydration. This water deficiency causes the skin on your face and some or all of the body to feel uncomfortable, especially after showering or bathing. Although symptoms are very similar, dehydrated skin should not be confused with dry skin.

Causes of Dehydrated Skin

  • Environmental factors, such as the cold, winter, pollution and wind etc
  • Emotional factors – stress or fatigue
  • Cosmetic products that are too aggressive, drying or stripping
  • External factors, like tobacco or alcohol
  • Certain medications, such as anti-acne or anti-cholesterol

One of the latest TikTok trends is people talking you through their skincare routines, in which you may have head or seen a lot of people talking about Hyaluronic Acid, the miracle ingredient!

What is Hyaluronic Acid, you may ask? Hyaluronic Acid is a sugar molecule that occurs naturally in the skin, and it helps to bind water to collagen, trapping it in the skin, so that the skin can appear plumper, dewier and more hydrated. The acid attracts and binds to water molecules and increases the water content of the skin, it can absorb more than 1,000 times it’s weight in water.

As we age, we loose collagen and Hyaluronic Acid naturally, so the skin becomes dehydrated more easily, also harsh factors like the ones mentioned above, can cause tiny cracks in the protective skin carrier, allowing water to escape. Hyaluronic Acid is great for all skin types. In general, the ingredient is non irritating and does not trigger acne, rosacea or allergic skin reactions. However, those with dry or mature skin will benefit the most from using Hyaluronic Acid.

You may notice the words ‘molecular weight’ wrote in the description of some products you are browsing, and if you have no idea what that means – keep reading!

The molecule size of different Hyaluronic Acid’s vary from bigger molecules that sit closer to the skin’s surface to smaller ones that go deeper into the epidermis.

Low Molecular Weight

A low molecular weight makes it possible to enter the skin, meaning the molecules will be working on the inside to ensure the best long lasting results.

High Molecular Weight

A high molecular weight creases a film on the skins surface rather than penetrating deeper into the skin. There will be an instant effect, but it may not last as long as that of a low molecular weight.

DEHYDRATED

At Phyt’s we have a full line of products enriched with Hyaluronic Acid of both high and low molecular weights, containing 8 products, ranging from a micellar water to a hydrating face mask, to a hydrating body milk – there really is a product for everyone!
