By April 6, 2023 Beauty, Tanning

We all know that when we put time and effort into something, you want it to last as long as possible. This is especially true with achieving that perfect bronzed glow! What if we told you the most important steps in your self tan regime were the pre and post steps? If you aren’t taking care of your skin before and after applying self tan, then your tanning result may not last as they should.

Luckily for us, there are some easy steps that can be implemented into everyone’s tanning routines to help maintain that golden glow, keeping you bronzed for longer! Starting at the beginning, what should you be doing before applying self tan?

If you wish to remove you body hair, ensure this is done at least 24 hours prior to applying a layer of self tan. This makes sure all hair follicles have closed back up, therefore avoiding the speckled look.

One secret to a longer lasting tan is to exfoliate at least 24 hours prior to tanning, this will get rid of any dry or dead skin, leaving you with the perfect base.

Moisturising is a tanning essential! Prior to tanning, we would advise you to apply moisturiser to the typically dry areas of the body – such as elbows, knees, ankles, hands and feet. This will prevent any tan from clinging to any dry patches.

Avoid deodorants and perfumes before applying self tan. These can create a sticky layer on the surface of the skin and prevent the tan from adhering.

Now you have the perfect tanning canvas, let’s talk about maintaining that flawless glow!

We would recommend you to gently exfoliate every 2-3 days, and moisturise the full body after every bath and/or shower. This will remove any dead skin cells and keep the body moisturised, allowing it to stay looking fresh for longer!
